The core business of the internationally active group involves processing stainless steels and clad materials. The core competences in material grade, welding and forming technology, and in quality assurance, are continuously being expanded. Thus the name BUTTING has stood for more than 230 years of quality and flexibility in metal processing.
BUTTING was founded in Crossen in 1777 as a coppersmith. Today we are one of the leading manufacturers of longitudinally welded stainless steel pipes, fittings and vessels. Our products are used worldwide. Our main objective has been to meet the challenges lying ahead together with our customers.
Pipe supplier for oil and gas industry
Since 1978 BUTTING has been a very successful supplier of special pipes for the oil and gas industry, i.e. for onshore and offshore as well as subsea projects and could demonstrate its expert knowledge regarding welding, forming and materials technology. We produce flowlines, riser pipes and others for topsides (platform FBSO) as well as line pipes. The mechanically bonded BuBi® is a very economic option and can be used in various applications. So far BUTTING has produced more than 130,000t of pipes in duplex and superduplex for renowned customers all over the world, such as ExxonMobil, BP, STATOIL, NAM, TotalFinaElf and GULF.
For projects in water depths of more than 1,000m, we produce special metallurgically clad riser pipes in welded construction with very tight tolerances. BUTTING had to break new grounds regarding welding and production technologies in order to comply with the latest technical requirements.
Power plant components
One of the prerequisites for the production of components for the power plants, especially for the nuclear industry, is a high degree of reproducibility at the manufacturer's workshops. The confidence in such hazardous installations is crucial for both the operators and the public.
BUTTING has been producing special types of containers for the transport and storage of nuclear waste for many years. Besides the production of these specially designed containers, we produce hollow sections with very tight tolerances for the long-term storage of nuclear waste, as well as special components for power plants. Depending on the intended use of the products, we process stainless steels, copper and aluminium, to name a few.
We are able to meet our customers' very high requirements for impeccable quality by providing metallurgical knowledge and by developing reliable processes.
